Tras comunicar el diagnóstico de cáncer, el equipo oncológico clasifica la enfermedad y define un plan terapéutico que puede incluir cirugía, radioterapia y tratamientos sistémicos, como quimioterapia, terapias dirigidas e inmunoterapia. Sin embargo, el ejercicio estructurado todavía se prescribe con menor frecuencia, pese al respaldo existente para preservar la capacidad funcional y reducir determinados síntomas durante la trayectoria de la enfermedad.
